Polocrosse – what is it?
Polocrosse (also spelt Polo X) is a combination of polo and lacrosse and a real team sport on horseback. Developed in Australia in the 1930s, polocrosse is now spreading to more and more countries.
The game is played with a 1.2 metre long racket with a net basket with the aim of getting the rubber ball into the opponent’s goal. The big advantage over polo is that the players only need one horse and the sport is therefore cheaper.
Two teams are playing, each consisting of three riders: an attacker (number 1), a defender (number 3) and a midfielder (number 2).
At 146.5 metres long and 55 metres wide, the pitch is slightly larger than a football pitch. It is divided into two goal areas and a centre field.
At Gut Dalwitz we have been breeding Criollo horses from South America for 30 years, which are particularly well suited to this sport due to their agility and composure. We have set ourselves the goal of making polocrosse a popular sport.
